Long-distance move from Burlington, WA to Manhattan, KS

Worst Experience Ever

MAP MOVERS

The Movers that picked up and dropped off, were hard workers and very polite. Management and dealing with my refund for late days was absolutely deplorable. My move was last September and to this day the horrible management Led by MAX still has not emailed me the required paperwork. DO NOT USE THIS SCAM COMPANY. I would take any stars away from this company

Horrible

I hired Onesource for a move from Georgia to Louisiana. They subcontracted the job to Map Moving who proceeded to lose or damage about $1000 worth of my possessions including a 55" 4k TV, Reidel crystal, glass cheese tray and steel shelving. After submitting substantiation paperwork they offered a settlement of $88.20 including $33 for the tv and less than $2 for the crystal stemware. Repeated calls to customer service were never answered. U-Haul would have been a better choice hiring local labor to pack and unpack.

Bait and switch scam

BAIT AND SWITCH SCAM... DO NOT USE

Bottom line up front. No ethical shipping company would charge 300% off of their quote, charge you for items not delivered and or not try to reimburse you for 21 boxes that most likely were lost due to gross negligence or just flat out stolen.

Brightside and MAP moving company work together in a bait and switch scam. I was quoted $7575 to move my household good from Memphis to Florida. In the end I had to pay $11,346 more and they lost or possibly stole 21 boxes valued over $4000.

They generate a quote based on volume, they are the supposed experts and I would have expected an accurate quote. The week prior to the move Brightside contacted me to go over the inventory list, at this time we took out the refrigerator, and washer and added boxes because Brightsides quote fell short of the estimate by a significant amount. The estimated cost at this time jumped to $11,865. They charge by volume because they can manipulate this measurement very easily. They had 10-15% of the truck loaded with empty boxes and packing material that was not used for my move. This gets counted into your volume and when they need to make two trips this volume will add up against you. This is how they get the cost to jump up almost 300%. They also use a First available delivery date which is very misleading because this means your house hold goods will not leave their storage house till after this date. I did not receive my goods till a week later. They Require cash or money order because they know once they have cash it is near impossible to dispute any charges, even when they do not deliver 10% of your goods.

Do NOT recommend this company

Summary is the moving company damaged our items ($1500 worth) during the move and when we sent in the damage claims they did not reimburse us even after calling about it every week for 2 months. They kept putting us off to the point where the representative started to say, "Sorry, you're breaking up. Call us later." In addition, a sales rep convinced us to pay an extra $500 to have the movers pack the house for us (which as it turns out they LIED and it was actually $900 on the contract. I just didn't read it carefully enough). They came and started packing but they used gigantic human sized boxes and did not pack our items well, but instead they left plenty of empty space in each box. That's a problem when we are paying for each cubic foot of space on the moving truck. Not only that, they refused to disassemble any of our furniture which took up most of the space. In the end, my partner and I had to start packing ourselves to save space on the truck. We ended up having to throw away and sell last minute half of all of our furniture because we didn't want to pay for the extra space. We only had 930 cubic feet of space to begin with which cost us a little under $9000. We ended up actually only using 890cubic feet and they did not discount the price even after I asked about it. Do not use their service. Just don't.

Official company response

Good afternoon Sam, we apologize that we didn't hit the mark when it came to your relocation. Unfortunately, we do not prorate estimates provided by your broke (Safe Ship) which is why your price did not decrease but remained the same. We also see you were sent claims information. Please let us know if you need any assistance filing a claim. Thank you for your feedback, have a great day!

If I could give negative stars I would

First tried to charge 2K more than estimate. Lost 17 out of 52 boxes incl. Some Un replaceable items. Everything was damaged. Refused covid mitigation. Refused to go over list of deliverables prior to leaving. Unpacked boxes and delivered items loose. Owner/Driver was rude, delivery personnel dropped furniture and Refused to assemble what little was able to be assembled. Delivered items that belonged to another move; WE caught that mistake. Tracked dirt all through out home. They lied about everything. Forced a delivery date that was never agreed upon, threatened to keep our belonging in storage indefinitely and accrue massive charges. Did not give the 24 hrs notice for pickup or delivery. Don't EVER use this company !!! At least $7,500 of loss. Some things can't be replaced like Christmas ornaments made by my children, one who has been missing for 8 yrs. These people just don't care about anything but getting a payment!

These people are criminals

They stole $1,100 from me after increasing the cubic feet from 300 to 600 with zero justification. I filed a formal complaint with the US DOT.

Absolutely terrible “company”

John is a scammer

I had no communication from this company till I complained. John and his relatives showed up at 7:30 p.m. when he was to have showed up between 3 and 5. It took 3 of them 5 hrs. to load. He upped my price, telling me half was $4939 and that I would have to pay the other half upon delivery. He would not communicate with me after that, hanging up on me. I finally was able to reach the company when I called the broker company and involved them. It was going to take longer to deliver than I had been told. I involved the broker company and then had communication with this company. I don't have a complaint per se against the company, my complaint is about John. He rushed through explanations and I didn't understand. He indicated discrepancies with the broker company, saying I had more than their contract listed. The two items he specified were on the broker contract. When they arrived, they parked farther from my walkway than necessary and charged me saying it was more than 100 feet. It wasn't. John wanted me to pay $100 cash so he and his brother and nephew could get something to eat. He told me he needed some water, then he saw my pack of gatorade on the floor and grabbed one, asking if he could have it only after he helped himself. When I talked with him before my load was delivered he hung up on me. So I called the company. The broker company called John directly to find out why he raised the rate to $10,000 (in addition to the $2000 deposit I made with the broker) when both pickup and delivery were figured in. John was not the one delivering, they had someone else deliver. At this point I want to rate the delivering driver, Carlos Morales, the highest rating possible. He was so caring and efficient, and he was happy to give me good news about the cost. MAP, please recognize Carlos. He went beyond what he needed to do and was very respectful. Back to John: There were different things that indicated to me that he fully planned to scam me and get more money for himself because I am elderly. After I had called the company, after he had hung up on me, the night before my stuff was unloaded John called me twice, at night. First call he asked if my load had arrived. I simply told him that it was on its way and refused to talk to him longer. Within the next hour he called again, about 8:30 p.m. and asked me if I had been given the final price. I told him I had. He asked if it was lower. He sounded pretty worried. I refused to give him the information. I called MAP and told them everything about John, and they said they would check him out. I suspect he has done this before and who knows how many elderly people he had scammed. I told customer service that my stand is that if they don't lose John I will not recommend their company. No one should be keeping such an employee. I discovered upon delivery that the driver has access to the company account at the bank, and I suspect John planned to only deposit part of the money I gave him to the company and keep the rest for himself. After my visit with customer service and my experience with Carlos, I can say that I don't have a bad feeling about the company, but if they continue to retain drivers who scam they will lose good business. I was very nervous with three stout men in my home for 5 hours late on a Friday night and I had to ask my friend to stay with me while they were there. MAP, I gave a rating of 3 because of John. As an elderly lady, I don't deal well with scammers. Had someone better done pickup, my rating would be higher, but I have BP issues and it was severely affected through that stress. I do want to say how much I appreciate you stepping up and resolving the problem with a partial reimbursement. I also want to thank the lady in customer service. She was very kind.

Less than one star

Arrived five hours late for scheduled move. Truck was not adequate size to accommodate the entire move. Informed us that an additional truck would be needed the next day at additional cost. Driver was rude and threatened to leave as we questioned the need for an additional truck. Finally completed packing at midnight, fit everything on his 26-foot box truck. Upon arrival at our new home, discovered multiple items damaged or broken. Very dissatisfied with this service and the original broker that assigned MAP to our move. Would not recommend using this service.

** Fraud Alert ** M A P Moving & Storage Inc. (South Florida)

South Florida moving and storage company named M A P Moving & Storage Inc. aka “Moving Solutions” (U.S. Dept. of Transportation number 244132) offers ultra low moving cost estimates to unsuspecting customers. Once M A P has your cash-only deposit, the M A P employees vanish, along with functional telephone numbers. There are dozens of complaints on file with Florida law enforcement, the Florida Dept. of Agriculture, and the Florida Dept. of Transportation about “load theft” (stealing consumer's furniture, etc.), “load hostage” (withholding delivery to make the customer pay more money) and similar unlawful activities. In fact, they were last seen over the weekend driving household goods away in a leased boxed truck with Tennessee license plates H4 73985. Now unable to locate them and/or our property.

Lied about additional items on my BOL

DO NOT TRUST WHAT THEY WRITE! Actually read over the bill of lading before you sign it. The movers wrote on there additional items which I do not own (dresser, bookshelf, ect) and then charged me over $1000 for additional items which I did not have. They explained that the 1K was only for my very large couch because the brokerage had not estimated its correct square cubit footage, not for additional made up items they wrote down, so i went along with it. There is a clear discrepancy on the numbered itemized list and what they wrote for additional items when they started taking inventory. Unfortunately I cannot get my money back because I signed the form agreeing that everything was accurate. The movers rushed me into signing when I tried to read things stating every additional 30 minutes I delay them would be an extra fee. They were also a day late in pickup after they had called and confirmed 24 hours prior. The movers were extremely slow (2 people where 1 actually did all the work), took from 9am-5:30 pm to move a 1 bedroom apt where it only took 2 hours during delivery with a staff of 3. 5 of my items were broken upon delivery.
